Diocesan Synod
Synod once again was a special time with its mix of worship, meeting over meals, teaching – this year from Canon Robert Jones, a regular guest who had his finger on the pulse and was able to gear his teaching on Ministry (the theme of this year’s Synod) to the realities of the context of the Chaplaincies in a gentle but encouraging way); a quiet morning this year at a convent able to cope with the larger numbers of this year’s Synod; and the important and sometimes controversial issues of Synod as well as the sharing of each chaplaincy through a powerpoint/video presentation. The business was efficiently conducted and there was open and gracious debate of several issues. There as even some time for some sport and David Axtell and I beat the rest of the world in a tennis tournament and David beat allcomers in the table tennis competition.
With the Gulf Air Flight Schedule we were unable to get back until Saturday, and we were kindly invited by Hrayr and Arda Jebejian to come and stay with them in their home in Nicosia. We joined them for a Valentine’s Evening of song and poetry at St Paul’s Cathedral, Nicosia. |
