We had two services on Good Friday. At the 9.30am we interspersed the reading of the Passion from St John’s Gospel with prayers and the extinguishing at the end of each prayer of five candles in turn. It was a very simple and for the sermon tried to reflect on the question what does it all mean? with a series of powerpoint pictures. I was anxious that the service looked over wordy, but people expressed their appreciation of its powerful symbolism. It helped having an activity for the children. I have always found all-age services on Good Friday a challenge. |
