Aftermath of Paris terrorist attacks: Sunday 11th January 2015

IMG_9426 The world was shocked by the terrorist killings in Paris and it was very clear that for the majority of Muslims this was an outrage that was deeply offensive to their faith. This was made clear by Sheikh Salah Al Jowder, the Imam at the Muharraq Grand Mosque, who asked if he could come to the Cathedral with DrMuhammed Al Zekhri.  Afterwards we went back to The Deanery to talk together with a journalist from the GDN. The persistence of Charlie Hebdo in publishing cartoons that are deeply offensive to all Muslims highlights to me that there have to be limits to freedom of speech, not necessarily legally imposed, but out of courtesy and respect for one another’s humanity. In this Je ne suis pas Charlie.
