On Wednesday we went to see the St Christopher’s School Year 4 production of Tuishi Pamoja, the story how giraffes and zebras who at first would have nothing to do with one another because one had spots and the other stripes are eventually reconciled. The songs, full of African rhythm were very catchy, the costumes were and stage set were magnificent and the children entered into the production with enthusiasm. At the end we were wished “a happy festive season and holiday”. The local Bahrainis are all unashamedly wishing me a “happy Christmas”, it’s a shame that secularism so self-consciously shapes the greetings we give to people at the most important Christian festivals of the year. |
