 On Thursday 20th John Banfield, Lay Canon of our Cathedral and Diocesan Director of Finance flew in from Dubai where his son is in port with the Royal Navy, for an evening consultation with Council members, the Chaplains and treasurers from the Canterbury group and the new Chaplain to Kuwait, the Rev’d Harrison Chinnakumar. Harrison arrived a day earlier in order to get a feel for the Mission to Seafarers’ ministry of Stephen. It was good to get this particular group together, first for fish and chips, and then John’s presentation. He highlighted the evident need for the adequate support of the Bishop’s ministry and the central office of the Diocese as well as resourcing functions like the spirituality and retreat ministry, selection and training, and communications which need to be done at a Diocesan level but resourced by the various Chaplaincies in a fair way. |
