Baptism
Baptism of Children
We’re delighted you’re thinking of baptism (or Christening ) for your child. Your child is precious to you and precious to God. At baptism you promise to raise your child to know God loves them, and to help them to follow Jesus as a member of the Church. At St Christopher’s we want to make the baptism of your child a very significant occasion. So, before fixing a date, we will want to help you, as parents, prepare for this.
We will encourage you to share in the worship and fellowship of the Cathedral community and to experience how children’s faith is nurtured at St Christopher’s.
-We will explore with you the meaning of baptism and help you understand the promises you make.
Please contact the Cathedral Office (Tel. 17253866), the Dean or Assistant Chaplain or meet them after a service.
Baptism of Adults
It is not unusual for adults, who have not been baptised as infants, to be baptised in older life and we are delighted to respond to this desire.
You will be expected to take part in a Christian Foundations course, which may well be linked in with preparation for Confirmation. Baptism of adults will very often take place at a Confirmation service, when the Bishop is present, and combined with Confirmation.
