Salvation Army celebrates 150 years: Sunday May 17th 2015

A pewter teapot, a lock of silver hair, a handkerchief with the initials WB embroidered on it, a cloth that previously covered his coffin, an 1870’s tract written the How to Reach the Masses with the Gospel of Jesus Christ  by William Booth – all these historical artifacts belonging to General William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army were on display at a special joint service with the local Salvation Army for our Sunday evening service to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the salvation army’s founding. Major Stewart Grinsted, the regional commander for the SA, whose great-grandfather  was a personal Assistant to William Booth a man whose funeral rivaled Queen Victoria’s in term of the numbers of people on the streets of London (www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Mp9OkRcMY8).   Lt Col Daniel Rahu Desari, the National Secretary for the Salvation Army in India preached.
