In the week beginning the 22nd September the Diocesan Roadshow hit Bahrain with the Diocesan Spirituality Development team meeting on Wednesday, the Bishop’s Council and Standing Committee on Thursday, a Confirmation Service for the Canterbury Group on Thursday evening, the ordination of Jo Henderson on Friday morning. Everyone had to be housed, fed and ferried and the Cathedral community did a wonderful job, providing food, helping provide taxi services, offering accommodation and generally being welcoming. The BACC had a reception for overseas guests in the Golden Tulip Hotel on the Wednesday evening and, following the Ordination, the Golden Tulip provided the reception in the Alun Morris Hall. The Ordination Service itself was a joyful occasion and it was special to welcome Canon Professor Martyn Percy, the Principal of Ripon College, Cuddesdon as preacher. On the Feast of Michael and All Angels he gave an insightful and personal reflection on the identity and ministry of angels and told a moving story from an earlier experience in his ministry of a lady who was who was dying.
It was an extremely busy week but our guests were delighted by the warmth of the Cathedral community and the generous hospitality. The Bishop’s final words were that it had been “exemplary”, so a big thank you for all who gave so much time and care to give our guests. |
