From Connecticut we took the train south first to New York , where we stayed in Brooklyn, and then to Washington. The weather in both places could not have been more different: in New York it rained for much of the time; in Washington the sun did not stop shining. One special meeting was with Jack Sullivan a Maryknoll Father, whom we had known in Hong Kong 25 years ago and Sister Maria with whom he worked for many years in the area of reconciliation. They are based in the Maryknoll Centre in Ossining an hour up the Hudson River from New York. In our three days in NY we were able to visit the National Memorial to the victims of 9/11, Times Square, take a trip on the Staten Island Ferry past the Statue of Liberty and to see the famous Manhattan skyline and to go to the Guggenheim Museum next to Central park. |
