As I have done for a few years now I helped with the front of house role for the Manama singers Christmas concerts at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Friday. It is always a good opportunity meeting a wide variety of people in the community who are often surprised to see me in this role (and dress –not literally: black tie). The earlier 4.30pm concert is aimed at children and includes a very early visit from Father Christmas; the evening concert had a longer programme and featured a soloist. There was plenty of variety in the programmes, and each began very atmospherically with the choir holding candles and standing in a circle around the audience to sing their first carol. It was good too to have some instrumental pieces to balance the choir. The Hallelujah chorus was a fine climax to the evening concert with the audience standing for it. |
