 On Tuesday afternoon Tricia and I joined Constance for the unveiling of the Bahrain Unity Quilt by the Minister of Social; Development Dr Fatima Al Balooshi. It has been a huge achievement of the small working group of the American Women’s Association to pull this project together. I remember seeing an advertisement in the Gulf Daily News earlier in the year and attending a briefing session with  three ladies in the Cathedral; it is wonderful to see this project completed, not just a work of art but a snapshot of social history in Bahrain and involving both the expatriate and Bahrain community together. Part of its vision was to train Bahraini women in the art of quilting to enable them to continue in order to contribute to the family income. The Quilt is on view in the Isa Cultural Centre behind/ adjacent to the Grand Mosque and will be doing a tour of Bahrain; I would urge you to make sure that you see it! |
