On Thursday evening Placido Domingo was in town and though he’s aged a bit since his publicity photo was taken, his voice remains strong and his stage presence powerful and the setting on the temporary “amphitheatre” between the National Museum and the sea was stunning. The sound people did a wonderful job to get the balance of voice and orchestra. With the price of the tickets, it was disappointing not to have a programme available and therefore not to know on the night either who the orchestra was (the Baden Baden Philharmonic), and who were his fine accompanying sopranos – Angel Blue and Micaela Oesta – but it was a wonderful evening and a privilege to be there. |
