On Tuesday 20th November in the evening I took myself off to the National Cultural Centre, while Tricia rehearsed with the Manama Singers for their coming concert. The State Dance Ensemble of Dagestan Lezginka, Russia were performing, a troupe of 32 dancers. The men dressed like Cossacks were very athletic, often gymnastic in their movement; the ladies in formal long dresses or folk costumes were contrastingly very graceful, gliding round the stage. It was a spectacular evening as and the Bahraini audience, the largest I’ve ever seen in that venue, clearly were enthralled by it. The Russian Ambassador was understandably delighted by the reception the group was given. |
