One item has clearly become very fashionable over the Christmas season in and about the Cathedral and that is the ghutrah, the local headdress made into ties, both red and green.  About two years ago Chris Green had one made up, much admired by all who saw it, and Michael and Clare Lightfoot followed up with making a few and gave me one. As all three have now left Bahrain I took the plunge and ordered twenty red and six green, all of which sold for BD5 within a couple of days (BD1-500 going to Freedom Dolls, the Cyprus Charity helping women caught in the web of human trafficking). Since then I have been back to the souk to order more and more than seventy have now been sold. We will probably bring a bundle to Synod! |
