Lunch with the USN Chaplains:Wednesday 15th October 2014

Jon Lavelle and I met with Gary Clore , the Senior Force and Fleet Chaplain and his Deputy Michael Baker to explore ways in which Jon can build on a ministry among families of service people on the Base. They are unable understandably to endorse any particular church, but want to be helpful in building relationships where possible. One immediate outcome was the organization of a meeting for a Reservist Chaplain, MarèqueIreland, to speak the following Tuesday in our home on Religious extremism.

Mareque, outside of her uniform, has a PhD from Cambridge and is a Professor at Fuller Theological Seminary and teaches World Religions and Systematic Theology. Sadly I missed, as I was in Cyprus for Bishop’s Council, but I gather was a very stimulating session and provoked some lively discussion. The Central Command Chaplain, Colonel Jeffery Watters, was also present.
