Some unexpected events can turn out to be blessings in disguise and certainly the visit of Peijin to Bahrain is an example of that. Peijin is the minister of the Chinese congregation in Kuwait and had to leave Kuwait in order to apply for a visa. On the day of her arrival we went straight from the airport to meet Peter and Teen for lunch at the simple Thai Honey Restaurant in central Manama and she and Teen were soon in full flow in Mandarin. In the evening I arranged for Sophia, who watches over the Chinese Christian community here, to meet with her and this meant several visits to them. Peijin turned her visa problem into an opportunity to learn as much as she could from her time here; so I had sessions on liturgy, choosing hymns, serving and she led morning prayer on one occasion and she attended a Confirmation group and joined me for a Home Communion. She joined the Women’s homegroup on Monday, visited the port with Stephen, talked to seafarers and gave out some gifts from the Christmas stockings and joined in the regular worship of the cathedral including the Songs of Praise. She was a delightful guest and Tricia and I felt blessed to host her for the nine days she spent in Bahrain. |
