Celebration of British Music

The finale of the Great British Week – we got a headline Great British Week ends on a high note- was a Celebration of British Music when some of Bahrain’s most talented musicians played a great variety of music in the Cathedral to a packed audience.British MusicRalph Vaughn Williams’ The Lark Ascending started the concert, Malcolm Arnold’s Fantasy for flute which sounded really demanding, some quintessentially English songs from Erika Nottingham Rawles, a Purcell trumpet solo Richard Rodney Bennett’s Travel Notes played by the Manama String Quartet and a sprightly Purcell trumpet sonata from Andy Holman. Michelle Miles even squeezed in an American composer Edward MacDowell’s Witches’Dance as well as accompanying several others on the piano. I hope this concert may relaunch our Cathedral Concerts – Thursdays at six.
