Farewell to Mavis Callanan

MavisIn our usual way at the Sunday evening service we bade farewell to Mavis who has been such a faithful member of the Cathedral over many years and when I invited members of the Council, who had served with her, to come up and lay hands on her, as a sign of solidarity and commissioning, I hadn’t realized quite how many there were present.

restaurantMavis has spent hours sorting out the records of the cathedral into some order over several years and that has been a labour of love, and from that gave a very entertaining history of the Cathedral in a Living Room Dialogue and, for our recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations, produced a booklet on 6o things you may or may not know about the cathedral. Above all the cathedral, as she said, has been her family in Bahrain and it was appropriate to say our final farewell over a meal, to which about 30 came, in the atmospheric Passion Restaurant in Adliya. The restaurant staff were, unsurprisingly, somewhat overwhelmed by the numbers, but the food was excellent and it was an enjoyable evening for all.

We wish Mavis ell as she establishes her home in Portugal.
