  I felt a little like a diplomat as Tricia and I had been invited to the Celebration of German Unity in the garden of the German Ambassador’s residence, a very gracious building in Saar. It was good to catch up with Admiral John Miller who took over command from Mark Fox and also to meet officers from both the Danish and Norwegian navies. I had a very interesting conversation with the Counselor (No 2) at the Turkish Embassy and I invited her to come to speak atone of our Living Room Dialogues in the new year; they await a new Ambassador to Bahrain so life is very busy. We also met some of the General Managers of some of the leading hotels here- many of them Swiss – and it was good to see that though they must be competitors, they are also seemed to be good friends and I flagged up a possible venue for the St Christopher’s Day Dinner next year. |
