On Friday afternoon, at fairly short notice, but that is not unusual in Bahrain, I was invited to take
part in an inter-faith prayer for peace which was held in the Al Ahli Indoor Sports Club. It was organized by the Bahrain Federation of Expatriate Associations under the dynamic leadership of Betsy Mathieson.
There were representatives of a variety faith communities: Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist as well as
Christians from several Christian traditions but each prayed in according to their own tradition or read from their scriptures with a deep respect for one another. I was a little irritated by all the cameramen which made it feel as if the prayers were directed at the press rather than God. But despite that I felt it was a worthwhile occasion and am grateful to all the hard work in pulling the event together. |
